Verdict

Mark Johnston has a strong grip on this race courtesy of Chilly Filly, Spirit Is Needed and Yorgunnabelucky, but we'll take them all on with RED CADEAUX. Ed Dunlop's charge has been off since finishing mid-division in the Chester Cup, a fine effort for one so inexperienced, and a return to this trip will help as he's only once been beaten over it. Indeed his last start over 1m4f resulted in giving weight and a beating to Tinaar, a filly now rated 97, so this handicap looks fair and he can go well if the market suggests he's fit and ready. Of the Johnston contingent Chilly Filly makes most appeal despite a 5lb rise for winning at Doncaster last time. Indeed both her wins have come for this rider at that track but she's worth her chance here and should go well. Spirit Is Needed will be ridden handily as he bids to follow up on a Newmarket success but that came in first-time blinkers and it remains to be seen whether they'll have the same impact here so he's taken on up 4lbs. Yorgunnabelucky shapes as though he'll get the trip but he was disappointing last time, enough for us to confidently predict this won't be a Johnston 1-2-3. Ella is a likeable mare but she's creeping up the weights in defeat and may struggle, Precision Break surely needs more time to recover from his first start of 2010 at Glorious Goodwood while Highland Glen has to give weight away all-round, so our tentative vote goes to Red Cadeaux.
