Verdict
Martin Pipe can take the feature race on the card with Kerrigand who will line up fit and fancied in his bid to stave off the challenge of Irish raider Glynn Dingle, Moving Earth and Navarone. Kerrigand is a recruit of the highest calibre in the staying ranks judged on his two wins at Worcester, and although he only had one rival to beat at Uttoxeter last time, his jumping improved again. Tony McCoy has been mightily impressed by the French-bred five-year-old, who will retain his novice status next winter as all three of his chasing wins this year have come after the May 1 cut-off point, and connections hope that he will turn into a similar sort as Stormez. So, in the future we can expect him to be aimed at races such as the Scottish National, but in the meantime he should have too much ability for his eight rivals, the best of whom may be Glynn Dingle who has not done a great deal wrong in Ireland. In addition he managed to score here at Perth in April despite a slipped saddle so is obviously going to be a danger. It remains to be seen how he will handle the step up in trip though, and his main target is the Galway Plate anyway. Moving Earth will do well to give weight away here, while Navarone will have to brush up on his jumping. Emperor Ross is a course and distance winner and Dominikus will be staying on at the finish-it all makes for cracking contest, but Kerrigand is the selection to complete a four-timer.
