In depth

Verdict

Regent's Secret has been running reasonably well on the flat of late and has to be of interest back over hurdles but Jim Goldie's gelding may have to settle for minor honours with a better bet looking to be Galiana, who gets the vote over The Ginger Man. The last mentioned has been placed in his last two starts but has had plenty of chances over timber and looks best watched on his 17th start over hurdles. Ferdy Murphy's Speed Up has shown gradual improvement of late and should again be thereabouts, while Mizen Raven is less exposed than most of these after just three starts and a market move for him would be of interest. Micky Hammond's Tucker holds similar claims to Alison's Thorpe's gelding and has to be respected but preference is for Galiana. Like so many of James Lambe's runners, the five-year-old mare showed improved form when sent across the Irish Sea, successful in a novices' hurdle at Hexham last month, she is taken to defy her penalty for that today.
