Verdict
The short list for the second division of the fillies' maiden contains Chatham Islands, Edge Of Gold and Hasty Lady, with the selection being Edge Of Gold. Mark Johnston's Chatham Islands has certainly shown some promise in a couple of runs, while Edge Of Gold was beaten only a whisker by Geestring at Newbury on her racecourse debut and she is entitled to plenty of respect. They can both be competitive today. A daughter of Dubai Destination, Kevin Ryan's Hasty Lady fetched less than half her original purchase price when resold as a two-year-old but she still gets a good mention today, while Hurricane Harriet certainly has something to like on breeding. Lady Deauville was not beaten too far on her Newmarket debut, and Lille Tuva gets similar comments based on her Bath racecourse bow. Tim Easterby's Marlena fetched 30,000 euros as a yearling, so is another to note, as are John Dunlop's 9,000 guineas acquisition, The Hoofer, and Mark Usher's 15,000 euros acquisition, Observatory Ridge. Once again, though, the selection is Edge Of Gold.
