Verdict

Most of these are better on the all-weather, including HAVING A BALL but he is worth a shot at the likely odds; Marjury Daw and Crystal Feather are others to bear in mind, while support for the lightly raced Horsley Warrior would also be noteworthy. The last named - a one-time Derby entry - is still unexposed and, having created a favourable impression on his reappearance at Southwell last month, he could easily improve for the switch back to turf. David Kenny takes 7lb off with his claim and, on these terms, the son of Alhaarth cannot be confidently ruled out. Crystal Feather is very capable at this level and the drop in trip shouldn't be too much of a problem. However, her best efforts have certainly taken place on artificial surfaces, so she does have a bit to prove on the ground. Marjury Daw landed a weak maiden at Wolverhampton in mid-March but was subsequently held off a 6lb higher mark a few days later. This is her first outing on turf for quite some time and she now looks vulnerable off a rating of 62. Therefore, with all things considered Having A Ball is no forlorn hope in a race of this nature. The gelding has a fair record from just eight outings on grass and, as he knows what it takes to stay there when he has forced his head in front, Having A Ball appeals as a sporting option in a wide-open contest.
