In depth

Verdict

VELVET BAND showed up nicely on debut at Goodwood and is fancied to get off the mark now she has the benefit of a run behind her. White Daffodil appeals as the better of Richard Hannon's pair (he also sends out Miss Lauz) and is respected as a threat. Reel Credit Crunch, who has already shown she has the ability to win a race at some point, completes our shortlist. Interestingly, the last named was claimed by Ian Mcinnes for 10,000 guineas after finishing second in a very modest seller at Thirsk last month. The betting market will, therefore, be a good gauge about her connections' confidence about gaining an instant return. White Daffodil showed good speed in a similar race at Windsor 16 days ago and it's noteworthy she is kept to the same level. Hannon's filly will qualify for handicaps after this but, as she lacks any big sales race entries, she will have to do things the hard way if she is going to match some of her more illustrious stablemates achievements. However, the form of Velvet Band's debut run is working out well and, as Paul Cole's filly showed a professional attitude when third at Goodwood, she is taken to hold the sharpest cutting edge this time around.
