Verdict

FLYING STATESMAN sets the standard here and is narrowly preferred to Fantastic Prince and the newcomers Layali Al Andalus and Paradise Spectre. Richard Fahey has his stable in fine form and Flying Statesman made a very pleasing start to his career when second at York. That looked a decent maiden and this $50,000 son of Johannesburg should appreciate today's quicker ground. Fantastic Prince improved from his first to second starts and Paul Cole's runner comes a long way to try and break his maiden tag; his dam was a prolific winner and it won't be long before he obliges. Interestingly enough Joe Fanning takes the ride, whilst Greg Fairley rides newcomer Layali Al Andalus. Mark Johnston's son of Halling is likely to need further in time but he cannot be ignored. Paradise Spectre must be considered as a new partnership between Harry Findlay, Tony Bloom and trainer Karl Burke; his sire Firebreak has not had many on the track but those who have raced appear to be fairly precocious. A fine start to the card and we will side with Flying Statesman.
