Gold Ring has the right credentials to take this trappy contest, with Wait For The Will, Argonaut and Millville also likely to be thereabouts. The selection is a thoroughly consistent sort who deserves to win a prize like this, and is effective at trips from 11 to 14 furlongs, with this mile-and-a-half being his optimum. A staying on win at Newbury last time marks him out as the one to side with here on ground he acts well enough on. Wait For The Will will also be popular after back-to-back wins at Goodwood and over course and distance, but he has always struggled in this sort of company and although better is expected, he may again fall short of the mark. Argonaut improved for the step up to this trip at Ascot last time and the Rainbow Quest gelding has conditions in his favour here, so further improvement is anticipated, while Millville is interesting on a second attempt on turf here after three wins from four starts on the polytrack. The fast ground should help him though he is difficult to weigh up, and we are happy that Gold Ring has what it takes to score.
