AMWELL PINOT has the best form and is fancied to see off Peter Martins, My Son Max and interesting newcomer Claret 'N' Blue. Alan Bailey's colt was outclassed in the Coventry Stakes but has bounced back with two good efforts including here. A repeat of his latest second to Measuring Time at Newbury might be enough to take this and he looks worth chancing. My Son Max has been given two months off since a below-par run at Pontefract; he remains capable of better and Richard Hughes (who takes over in the saddle) has been exquisite on the juveniles once again this year. Colorado Gold scored readily at Leicester in June and with the second home winning easily since the form looks strong and he rates a player on official ratings, whilst Chieftan and Dux Scholar represent Sir Michael Stoute. The former is from the family of Goldikova and therefore expected to fare better as a three-year-old, whilst the latter is the first foal of a Cheshire Oaks winner so again the emphasis may be on next year. Of more interest today is Claret'N'Blue who made $135,000 as a two-year-old and is related to juvenile winners, whilst Peter Martins is another from a successful American family and the booking of Frankie Dettori catches the eye. The Hurricane Run colt Cadore is not dismissed easily, however the vote goes to the experienced Amwell Pinot.
