In an interesting maiden, the vote goes to Black As Soot, with his biggest dangers possibly proving to be Melodic Score, Archerfield Links, Rebelling and Street Warrior. Black As Soot showed plenty of promise on his debut over course and distance despite running green. The form of that race rates as pretty decent and he can go well today. By Kingmambo out of a Sadler's Wells mare, Melodic Score certainly attracts interest on breeding and can maybe give Frankie Dettori a good ride on his return from injury, while John Dunlop's Morghim, a son of Machiavellian, is also interesting, although he is a late foal. Archerfield Links has interesting breeding, as have Barnamaj, although his dam stayed quite well, and Rebelling. Henchman is nicely bred and rates as interesting, while Indigo Dancer gets fairly similar comments. As a half-brother to several winners, the Clive Cox-trained Street Warrior gets a big mention, while Tower Hill and Tumbleweed Glory are others to have a look at. Overall, though, we will stay with Black As Soot.
