          Verdict

          Rather than look for a conditions race Spliff, Henry Candy has decided to take in this competitive handicap and we will take the tip and make him our selection to hold off Danzig River, Distant Times and Bygone Days. There was plenty to like about the way Spliff won at Salisbury last time in ground that was against him and from a poor draw. He did that the hard way and with a 7lb rise he will have to work hard here too, but there looked to be a fair bit more to come from this lightly-raced colt and he is the choice. Danzig River is 1lb higher than the selection and on balance looks to have a harder task, given that he has gone up 3lb for a recent course and distance second to Saristar, but faster ground will help him. Distant Times gets in with a low weight and is not a bad animal over this trip, handling good to firm well, though he will probably be held by his 6lb rise for a Warwick win last month, while Bygone Days makes some appeal dropped back to six furlongs but probably wants slower ground to be more effective. The selection then, is Spliff to light up our afternoon.
