Magical Music gets a narrow vote over Colinca's Lad and Silent Applause, with Resplendent Nova and Surwaki not out of it. The meeting ends as it began, with a big field of handicappers to contend with, and again only a small vote of confidence goes to the selection Magical Music. The Jeff Pierce-trained four-year-old gained her first turf victory at Pontefract 18-days ago, having won six times on the all-weather previously, and is still well enough handicapped. Although her latest victory came on soft ground, she will have no trouble with the faster conditions, so will hopefully make a bold bid to follow up. Colinca's Lad was in truth disappointing when beaten at Folkestone, given that he did not carry a penalty for an earlier apprentice success here at headquarters, but the faster ground will help his cause. However he meets the Newmarket runner-up Silent Applause on slightly worse terms, and as the latter can be expected to come on for the run, it would be no surprise if Jon Scargill's charge turned the tables. Resplendent Nova might struggle to stay the mile, and Surwaki has it to do off topweight, so we return to Magical Music as the answer.
