A lottery is how this opener is best described but plenty of each way value should be available. Trenchant from a middle draw is selected in the hope that this drop back to a mile and the quicker surface will work in his favour. It appeared as if the 12 furlong trip in soft ground at Folkestone last time stretched his stamina to the limit. A mark of 67 could be lenient if this half-brother to Cesare has inherited any of his families natural ability. Dragon Slayer is un-penalised having landed an apprentice handicap last time although this is a much tougher assignment. Papradon was well-backed to land a Lingfield handicap last time. The majority of his racing has been done over further while also being on the all-weather but a stall one draw means that his rider may have to play hold-up tactics which are not certain to suit over this trip. Jackie Kiely holds a much higher rating on the all-weather than on turf but is clearly more effective on an artificial surface. Lunar River carries a 6lb penalty after a recent Wolverhampton success. Her running style should be suited to this larger field as she needs to be produced late while Smirfy's Silver might just be in the grip of the assessor once again. Trenchant is selected to land the opener.
