tracked leaders, driven and hung left over 1f out, edged right inside final furlong, one pace
slowly into stride behind, ridden halfway, never able to challenge
in touch, driven to challenge over 2f out, weakened final furlong
held up, ridden and effort over 2f out, soon weakened
held up in touch, ridden and effort over 2f out, stayed on final furlong
mid-division, ridden to challenge over 2f out, stayed on final furlong
held up, driven and headway over 2f out, weakened final furlong
always prominent, led over 1f out, edged right, ran on well
Newmarket's Cesarewitch meeting gets under way with a juvenile maiden in which Great Fox may fulfil the promise of his course and distance debut last month, with Emtilaak and best of the rest to have raced so far. Pat Gilligan's colt caught the eye when nearly causing a shock here on his introduction, matching strides with the leaders until being found out by greenness in the dip. He swerved markedly left then right and would surely have won rather than going down by a short-head to I Won't Dance if he kept a straight line. Sure to know a bit more now, Great Fox can make amends. He posted a slightly faster time than Emtilaak did in an earlier division at headquarters and should do the same now, while of the newcomers, Muktasb catches the eye on breeding and may turn out to be one to follow in time. On this occasion though, Great Fox is taken to oblige.
