With the going un unknown quantity for Beauty Bright, Violette and Expensive, preference is for Abigail Pett who is preferred to Short Skirt. The last mentioned did every thing asked of her first time out on a softish surface on her debut but Sir Michael Stoute's filly may not have beaten a great deal and she may be found wanting in this better grade. Expensive put up a career best effort when lowering the colours of Flashy Wings at Newbury when last seen and has to be respected on that evidence but her form is all on a faster surface and she is far from certain to handle today's softer ground. Queen Cleopatra looked as though she was still in need of the experience here last time and could be interesting along with stablemate Beauty Bright, although the latter is another not certain to be at her best on the ground. Montreux is clearly going the right way but this looks tougher than the maiden she won at Haydock last month and of more interest could be Sir Mark Prescott's Violette, although her stable could be in better form. The vote then goes to Abigail Pett. Anything that Jim Bolger sends to the UK has to be given plenty of respect and while a Group 3 penalty makes life tougher for the daughter of Medicean her ability to handle cut in the ground makes her the one to beat.
