In depth

Verdict

Not a race for a dogmatic approach, so only a tentative nomination goes the way of Salon Prive, while Banjo Bay and Stargem are others that can go close if they are in the mood. Stargem goes well for Jimmy Quinn and the partnership can give each-way backers a good run for their stake-money. However, the fact that the daughter of Compton Place has never won on turf is very off putting and others make more appeal. Banjo Bay has intermittent flashes of ability and can never confidently be ruled out in this sort of company. However, he is not one to rely upon too heavily in a finish; especially over the minimum trip. Therefore a chance is taken with Salon Prive, who is ideally suited to a fast run five furlongs. The Charles Cyzer-trained gelding has held his form well this season and, from a very fair mark, has every chance of adding to his tally if he runs to his best.
