ERFAAN, Liquid Asset and Emerald Commander are just three names to conjure with in a race where the market will be invaluable. Horses with experience have held the upper hand in recent years but it's a five all split over the past ten years so none can be ruled out on that score but a better guide has been the market with five winning favourites and only one winner priced bigger than 6-1. Richard Hannon has provided three winners and he relies on Emerald Commander (out of a half-sister to Commander Collins) which looks significant. Other newcomers to note are High Holborn, Poet's Voice, Tiger Hawk, Osorios Trial and Elusive Pimpernel. Andrew Balding appears to have amassed a strong team this year and Liquid Asset looked well above average when finishing second on debut; so many of the yard's youngsters improve considerably for that initial experience and that form looks to set the standard. Gold Diamond was made favourite on debut and could well improve as may Heading To First who will need to. Erfaan was beaten a long way in a maiden that has worked out well but he looked a picture beforehand and attracted support. The run was better than it appears as he was rushed up to contest the lead after missing the break and was a spent force just after halfway. If he has learnt from that experience and can distribute his energy more evenly throughout the race then Erfaan may well be able to take a hand in the finish.
