VALERY BORZOV ran creditably on ground that may have been more testing than ideal when chasing home Rising Shadow at Ripon earlier this month, and the David Nicholls-trained gelding looks worth backing on a more suitable surface today off a 2lb higher mark, getting the verdict ahead of Rising Shadow and Barney McGrew. The last mentioned resumed winning ways when taking a handicap over course and distance last month, for which a 4lb rise is perfectly fair and he has to be respected. Bryan Smart's Prince Hamlet was good value for his win at Musselburgh last time but a 9lb rise for that looks harsh and he is not certain to appreciate the drop in trip to six furlongs for the first time today. Richard Whitaker's Damika has run creditably this term and has to be considered but he could probably do with some help from the handicapper. Greco Tom, a Grade 1 winner on his latest start, is probably best watched on his British debut and of more interest may be Rising Shadow, who is closely matched with the selection on Ripon running.
