Winthorpe, Moyanna and Summer Special finished close together at Thirsk earlier in the season, and they could all play a leading role in this finale, with the former just preferred. The three runners had less than half a length between them when third, fourth and fifth behind subsequent handicap winner Mrs Malarkey at Thirsk, and at these revised weights John Quinn's horse might just have the edge. Moyanna was subsequently a fast-finishing second behind the same winner on her handicap debut at Nottingham, but certainly gives the impression that an extra furlong would suit her, while Summer Special made much of the running at Catterick last time, eventually finishing third behind No Grouse, and races off the same mark. It should be noted that low numbers held a significant draw advantage at the last meeting here, and with that in mind King's College Boy, who shaped quite nicely on his reappearance at Catterick, is another to consider.
