From a shortlist containing Loch Verdi, Crimson, Dona Vitoria, Merit, Lady Livius and Rosinka, we will side with Loch Verdi. By Green Desert out of the top-class racemare, Lochsong, Loch Verdi will attract plenty of attention on her debut, and she catches our eyes too. Market support would be interesting. Crimson caught a tartar at Pontefract last time but the level of ability she has so far displayed entitles her to a lot of respect tonight. Dona Vitoria, who cost 42,000 guineas, Lady Livius, a half-sister to Galeota, and Merit, who cost 40,000 guineas, also merit consideration. With his stable in good form, Overwing has to be considered, while Marcus Tregoning's Glenrowan and Kitmaah, and John Dunlop's Goodwood March might be worth a look in the betting, although Dunlop's Rosinka, a 58,000 guineas daughter of Soviet Star, might be his strongest representative. In an interesting race, and one that should certainly be viewed with an eye to the future, those that have been named seem to hold the best profiles, with the sentimental selection being Loch Verdi.
