In depth

Verdict

Banjo Bay gets the vote over Kahlua Bear, Aastral Magic and Cesar Manrique to name but a few. Banjo Bay has won two of his last three starts, the most recent of which came once again on the Turf course at Lingfield just six days ago. Gay Kelleway's charge has been a different animal since being fitted with a tongue-tie, and despite a 6lb penalty, he can pay to follow again, with the fast ground in his favour. Kahlua Bear won a Brighton maiden very narrowly with the aid of a first-time visor, but connections feel that he is improving rapidly, and the fact that he even lines up here emphasises that faith. Aastral Magic has been on the premises without delivering so far this term but is starting to look better handicapped of late, while Cesar Manrique came with a storming late rattle when second over five furlongs here last time and should go well over the extra furlong. However, he would be more effective if it rains enough to change the ground, and for that reason is opposed, with preference for Banjo Bay.
