Catspraddle gets a tentative vote over the likes of Sleeping Storm, Mannikko and Peter Island in another wide-open contest. None of these line up in tip-top form, but Catspraddle has already been successful this season and has been given a small break since finishing third at Windsor at the start of July. She runs as though she needs the kid-glove treatment and needs to be produced at just the right time, but if Richard Hughes can get her settled just off the pace, Richard Hannon's filly can pounce when it matters. Sleeping Storm's apprentice pilot has overdone the waiting tactics on each of her last two starts but has obviously been riding to orders, and if she can get out quicker and lie up with the field, another course-and-distance success is not beyond her capabilities. Mannikko is now ready for the step back up in trip judged on latest efforts, while Peter Island has a top jockey on board in a bid to be placed again. Johnny Alpha is best watched on his seasonal reappearance but is at least unexposed, while the market will perhaps throw up a springer. The narrow vote goes to Catspraddle.
