Verdict
This is probably the best fillies maiden of the season so far and the likes of Aunt Julia, Alumni Play Me are all very much respected. However, preference is given to Oaks entry Karliyna, whose yard have already had a first time out winner this term and obviously have their game plans in order. Gems Of Araby had numerous options this week and, being Henry Cecil's first runner of the season, has to be considered. She is a half-sister to the useful Double Crossed and can be expected to cope with at least this trip. Alumni is related to several three-year-old winners and can pay her way this term. Still she is also down to run at Windsor later in the week and the this may be just a fact finding mission with her. Aunt Julia and Ruby Wine hold experience from last term and are set to encounter a more appropriate trip. There should be more to come from both as they gain in experience. Play Me is also worth a mention, as Newbury has long been stated as Peter Chapple-Hyam's favourite place to introduce his better two-year-olds. However, Sir Michael Stoute's record with three-year-olds at this track has already produced a respectable 29% strike-rate over the last five years - which can be added to with the Aga Khan-owned Karliyna if all goes to plan on her debut.
