The shortlist here consists of Dark Day Blues, Thornaby Green, Flash Ram and Graceful Air, with the vote going to Thornaby Green. The selection races from a three-pound higher mark today than when scoring at Hamilton over six furlongs in June. However, his rider takes off a useful five pounds and he looked ready for a step up to seven furlongs last time and maybe is the day to prove that point. Flash Ram is a Carlisle maiden winner and might appreciate this seven-furlong trip, while Dark Day Blues is back to near a winning mark following some reasonable runs in defeat of late. Graceful Air, who could benefit from the handling of Kevin Darley and the first-time visor, comes into the reckoning on bits of form plus the fact that he is ten-pounds better off with Showtime Annie for the length that he finished behind her at Ayr in May. The latter, though, appeared to put up an improved effort at Chester last time. With one or two lightly-raced runners in the line-up, the betting should be watched with interest but, overall, we are prepared to side with Thornaby Green.
