One Trick Pony has some fair form in this grade, but his best efforts have come with some juice in the ground, and the less exposed Martharum is preferred. One Trick Pony has scored twice in Thirsk claimers this season, but on both occasions there has been plenty of cut in the ground and it could be significant that the fastest surface he has encountered so far was last time out at Leicester when he put in a below par performance. Stablemate Par Excellence also boasts some winning form and seems more effective on a faster surface so he could easily be the pick of Bill Turner's pair. Garstang was disappointing at Haydock last time but had earlier run well in maiden company at Musselburgh and can get the better of Compton Lad, who finished a place ahead of him at Haydock. For the selection, though, we side with John Quinn's filly Martharum. She was beaten a length and a quarter by One Trick Pony at Thirsk but is five pounds better off. She ha sfar more scope than most of these rivals, particularly as her breeding suggests she will be more at home on this faster surface and she is fancied to score her first victory here.
