In depth

Verdict

Heraldic signalled an imminent victory with a very good run at Al Ain and duly landed a handicap over track and trip. He returned a fortnight ago and defied a 5lb rise by making all and holding off HUCKLEBUCK after a fierce battle up the straight. The latter, who is still a maiden, only gave way in the closing stages and with a 3lb pull can reverse the form. Big Brown Bear landed a maiden over a mile before running Cachao close when conceding 7lb over the same trip where he stayed on strongly. He's an obvious contender if staying the extra, as is the winner, but Quartier Francais, a winner over slightly shorter in November, was eight lengths behind Heraldic on his next start. Berkshire Boy won at Chepstow in June but looks high enough in the weights on what he's achieved so far in the UAE and has never run here.
