The first division of the maiden auction stakes kicks off the card, with Contented the likely winner, Kandidate is put forward as a major threat along with Starlight River. Ed Dunlop's colt took part in a decent maiden here earlier this month and wasn't disgraced finishing a close up fifth behind Meditation. The stables juveniles invariably improve with racing so Contented holds very strong claims here. Kandidate has taken on decent opposition on the turf, and put up his best performance last time when sixth in the Royal Lodge Stakes, if he can translate that form to the all-weather he will be a big danger to the selection. Starlight River has had plenty of chances but holds her form well. She wasn't beaten far in a nursery on the turf here last time and should again figure in the finish. So this could turn out to be quite a decent maiden and Contented just edges the decision.
