Verdict

Gerard Butler's runners have turned the corner of late and Ragged Jack, who made the most of a good opportunity last time, is fancied to follow up here; possibly at the main expense of Eccentric and Grandalea. The lightly raced La Landonne could also go well for each-way players and is worth considering if the prices permit a few bases to be covered, while Christina's Dream has a live chance on these terms and should not be too far away if handling the surface. Grandalea, who ran 1,000 Guineas runner up Sundrop to a head here last September, will no doubt come in for her share of supporters after a more encouraging display last time. She will also benefit from the assistance of Kieren Fallon and will not go down for the want of trying. Eccentric, as a previous course and distance winner, is another to seriously think about, as her latest start suggested that she is back to something like her best. Nevertheless she has a bit to prove on these terms and there may be better value to be had elsewhere. Which brings us back to Ragged Jack, who is unexposed at this trip. The son of Cape Cross has handled this track well on four previous visits - the last of which was particularly eye-catching as race-fitness just cost him the day as he failed to reel in the winner. This extra furlong will help his cause today and he looks worth another try now that his confidence has been boosted.
