NORTHERN EMPIRE should take all the beating in this small field with Russian Symphony next best while an improved effort from Gold Rock will have him close. Not only is the selection the highest rated in the race by seven pounds he has also been running well. His run behind Brandywell Boy in a similar event last time reads strong enough for this standard and with the form franked by the fourth placed horse going on to score next time and the fact he is receiving a pound from his nearest rival who's rated seven pounds below him things look good. That nearest challenger is Russian Symphony who must be respected dropping down into this company for the first time. He has been running well enough under a high looking mark and having been competitive off a similar rating to that of the selection in 2007 he has the potential to over turn unfavourable terms. Gold Rock has a bit to find on the two we've just mentioned according to the ratings but is unexposed enough to find that improvement, however that will have to be taken on faith while Fly In Johnny is given very little chance. There is, though, a chance of a surprise but things looks set up for Northern Empire.
