Cormorant Wharf has been placed on a number of occasions and can gain due reward for consistency ahead of Eastborough, True Companion and Nevada Desert. There are plenty capable of obliging here but Cormorant Wharf, second three times in his past four outings, is given another chance to finally go one better. Ted Powell's four-year-old has not visited the winner's enclosure since scoring on his debut for Peter Makin at Windsor in 2002. However, the former sprinter has been performing quite well since stepped up in trip and was only beaten a head in a blanket finish at Wolverhampton last time. Off his current rating, the son of Alzao should be followed as he looks set to strike soon. Eastborough was fancied by connections at Wolverhampton the other day but was a bit one-paced and although likely to be there or thereabouts, cannot be backed with confidence. True Companion takes a fair drop back in trip here but is a previous course and distance winner, and Nevada Desert still looks a bit high in the weights. Border Edge, Dagola, and Screenplay should all win small races over the winter, but on this occasion all may have to give best to Cormorant Wharf.
