This should not take a great deal of winning with only a few of the eight runners holding any sort of viable claim and preference is for Hernando Royal, who gets the vote over Gouranga and Chronomatic. The selection made an encouraging debut when second in a heavy ground maiden at Pontefract in April. Hugh Morrison's son of Hernando should improve for this longer trip and should not be inconvenienced by the switch to the all-weather. Henry Candy's Gouranga ran with promise on her only start at two and again on her reappearance at Salisbury last month but is not certain to appreciate today's longer trip. Walter Swinburn's Gavanello makes limited appeal on his debut effort and a bigger threat is likely to come from the Mark Tompkins-trained Chronomatic, although he is becoming exposed now and a safer bet looks to be Hernando Royal.
