An interesting maiden to round off the card at Lingfield and as none of those with previous experience have really taken the eye, a split stakes approach with Roger Charlton's two newcomers is suggested to spice up the interest for punters at home. The claims of Turner will no doubt be well touted before the race and the cliches about his experience being the telling factor will no doubt be abounding. However, he has looked slow on his two previous starts and does not make much appeal if a fair return is needed from the getting out stakes. Therefore a small stakes investment in the two Derby entries, Bakhyar and Worcester Lodge, may provide the key to finding a couple to follow from this heat. A literal assessment of pedigree gives a slender vote to Bakhyar, who, as a son of the great Daylami out of a half-sister to Intimate Guest, is the preferred of the two over this trip. Worcester Lodge was retained for 70,000gns though and will obviously be expected to start paying his way sooner rather than later. So in what is something of a guessing game, we take the side of Roger Charlton in the hope that, on this occasion, experience doesn't count so much.
