TIMEPIECE and Gertrude Bell were separated by half a length on debut and are the starting point in this maiden but there are a good number to consider, including Mirabella and Maristar. Verity Lane was by no means disgraced when last of three in a Wolverhampton novice stakes whilst Sparkling Smile is heading in the right direction and should appreciate the step up in trip as will Shimmering Surf who made an eyecatching debut. Nouriya is the first foal of an unraced dam from a nice family and has been given an Irish Guineas entry; she may be best watched on this occasion unless the market suggests otherwise. Mirabella was made favourite on debut but was beaten two lengths into fourth having made much of the running; her breeding suggests that she'll be more at home over this mile. A stablemate of Maristar filled second in that race so Gerard Butler will have a line on the form for his filly who shaped pleasingly in a valuable conditions race at Newbury. She's out of a Breeders' Cup winner so should be suited by this surface as well as having plenty to live up to. Gertrude Bell wasn't far behind Timepiece at Newmarket in a race that Cecil had won with Midday and Light Shift in the past. That no doubt contributed to Timepiece being made favourite as well as her taking pedigree and she should be wiser now. The pair are closely matched on that evidence but we'll take Henry Cecil's half-sister to Passage Of Time and Father Time to come out on top again.
