Verdict
Garnett is taken to complete a hat-trick of wins, with Box Builder, Cambo, Annus Iucundus and Dark Parade just four out to stop him. This is a really competitive event to start the eight-race card, but Garnett has been in good form of late, and so should run well. Don Cantillon's gelding is slightly worse off at the weights with both Cambo, whom he beat over the course and distance last time, and Annus Iucundus, whose measure he had here the time before over a shorter trip. However, he is such a tough individual, who even managed to score over hurdles at Wincanton in November, that you would not put it past him improving again. He is actually not badly treated by the conditions of today's race, and if all goes to plan, he may well even run in the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. The two rivals mentioned have obvious claims again, while Box Builder will come on for his belated return at Southwell. Dark Parade has his regular pilot back on board today and is closely matched with Cambo, so should not be dismissed entirely, but in a tricky opener, Garnett is the pick.
