In depth

Verdict

Quite rare to see Sir Michael Stoute with a runner before the Newmarket Craven meeting so we'll take the hint and go along with THEODORE GERICAULT. The son of Derby winner, Sir Percy, made an eyecatching debut at Newmarket in late July on what turned out to be his sole juvenile outing when fourth behind the very useful The Gold Cheongsam. He was going on really nicely at the business end and can build on that distinct promise here before going on to better things. Kohlaan has shown ability on both outings but clearly needs to settle better on the evidence of his latest Kempton run when he finished just behind Gift Of Silence. John Berry should get a win out of the latter once going handicapping and the main danger to the selection could be Arctic Admiral. More exposed than his rivals, the Hannon inmate has experience on his side, has shown his best form to date on Polytrack and his overall form profile suggests he's sure to be in the shake-up in what is an interesting maiden.
