Verdict

An open handicap where a small stakes investment on Penny Stall makes more appeal at the likely prices than going in heavy with the likes of Show No Fear and Sound OF Fleet, who are open to improvement but have posted slightly disappointing efforts recently. However, cases can also be made for a number of the rest with Man Of Letter and Charmatic heading the list as both are very much respected and should be considered as sound alternatives for those trying to cover all corners. The booking of Richard Quinn, combined with the step up in trip, could also be the making of Chubbes, as there does not appear to be many other candidates for towing them along in the early stages. The Martin Pipe-trained gelding seems best when he is allowed to take up a prominent position and, with Quinn on the crest of a wave at the moment, the partnership could have an easy time of things if allowed to dominate. However, as this is something of an unknown regarding the distance under race conditions he is therefore taken on with Penny Stall as the daughter of Silver Patriarch has already proved that this is her sort of trip. John Dunlop's runners have been very profitable to follow on their visits to Leicester - consistently returning a good level-stakes-profit with three-year-olds over the last three years. Which bolsters the claims held by Penny Stall as one that can give us a good run for the money at a fair price today.
