Verdict

This is an interesting two-year-old race with the betting likely to provide a number of clues but, without that, we'll opt for Grand Place over African Dream and Lady Ann Summers. The selection ran better than his finishing position implies in a reasonable contest at Windsor last time, as he was poorly drawn but still managed to show good speed. The drop in trip today should suit him and he has to be considered here. Pipalong's half-sister African Dream stepped up on his debut run to finish second at Sandown and should continue to progress, while Brian Meehan's Lady Ann Summers was very highly tried on her debut and should be much more at home at this level. Of the others, Lowestoft Playboy has improved on each outing to date and also drops back to five furlongs after a reasonable Newmarket run last time and Vaigly Star is related to a number of winners, while Notjustaprettyface and Looking Great have plenty to like on breeding although the feeling is that the latter might appreciate a longer trip As we say, it's interesting, but our vote goes to Grand Place.
