Fernando Torres is the obvious starting point here as the only last-time-out winner lining up but the step back up to a mile looks a concern so we'll oppose him in favour of YMIR who can take this from French Art. Michael Attwater's colt has been raised 3lb by the assessor for taking second last time out but that effort reads well in the context of this race, the winner having looked well treated, and Jim Crowley's mount pulled nicely clear of the field. The three-year-old remains a maiden after 14 starts but with today's mile trip looking ideal we fancy the horse to stick his head in front today. French Art has the assistance of Kieren Fallon in the saddle for the first time and the masterful jockey can help guide this frustrating gelding to a place. The former David Elsworth trained four-year-old was once rated 84 after a comprehensive maiden victory yet runs here off just 62 and with a couple of solid efforts to his name of late Nick Tinkler's representative can go close once more. Fernando Torres is amongst the least exposed here having raced just six times, the last of those a first success on the gelding's first try on the all-weather. With an upwardly mobile profile and from a plot draw in stall 11 this one clearly merits respect but is narrowly passed over on the grounds that this step back up to a mile isn't certain to suit although on breeding at least it shouldn't be a problem. As a son of Giant's Causeway this one remains open to improvement and is certainly a major player in today's relatively modest heat. Dream Express takes a significant step up in trip today having raced over six furlongs last time but the mile journey should be well within this geldings compass and he rates a player as does Bavarica who has an ideal draw and won convincingly off 4lbs lower in the autumn. A tricky looking race but a chance is taken on Ymir.
