Lake Pontchartrain has been in good form of late and has to be respected despite the burden of a 7lb penalty but the outside draw has to be of concern and a safer bet looks to be Inquisitress, who gets the vote ahead of Homes By Woodford. The last mentioned, a seven furlong winner at Southwell two starts ago, should appreciate the return to that trip today having found things happening too quickly for him over six furlongs here last time. A market move for handicap newcomer Ballyshane Spirit would be of interest, while Prince of Charm looks to be going the right way and is entitled to be thereabouts again. The vote though goes to Inquisitress, who made the most of the drop in class when landing a seller at Lingfield in decisive fashion last time and has surprisingly been dropped 2lbs by the handicapper since then.
Ballyshane Spirit (IRE) 20-1 (8-11) Slowly into stride, held up in rear, headway over 2f out, switched left entering final furlong, ran on to take 3rd towards finish, 3rd of 16, 3l behind Retaliate (8-12) at Lingfield 6f 2yo clm (6) sft in Sept.
Inquisitress 4-6fav (8-6) Keen hold, made most, ridden clear over 1f out, driven out, won at Lingfield 1m 2yo sll (6) pol beating For Eileen (8-3) by 3l, 7 ran.
Show Trial (IRE) 4-1jt-fav (9-0) Chased leaders, ridden over 2f out, kept on one pace, 6th of 14, 5l behind Bridget's Team (8-11) at Southwell 6f hcp 0-65 (6) fbs.
Prince of Charm (USA) 9-2 (9-0) In touch, ridden to lead 1f out, soon pressed, headed final strides, 2nd of 14, nk behind Lake Pontchartrain (9-6) at Kempton 1m hcp 0-65 (6) pol.
