With so many juveniles from top southern yards taking each other on, one cannot be confident of predicting the outcome, so only a modest vote goes the way of City Of The Kings ahead of the well-entered Conduit, Stormy View and Rockfield Tiger to name but a few. City Of The Kings was not beaten far when fourth to a Gosden odds-on shot at Newmarket last time, and considering that he did not get the clearest of runs, and probably found the going a shade too fast, is worth following to lose his maiden tag sooner rather than later. Whether that is today, remains to be seen, but he can boast more experience than most of his rivals, and should run well. Conduit is another with leading claims, having not been beaten far on his Newmarket debut over seven-furlongs, and he has entries in the Royal Lodge, Racing Post Trophy and next year's Vodafone Derby. John Gosden, whose Centennial beat the selection at headquarters, will have a line to the form, and saddles Stormy View, but she needs to show much more than she did on her debut behind Cape Amber at her local course. Rockfield Tiger has a tongue-tie fitted here to help improve his fortunes. He has not cut it over six-furlongs since finishing fourth behind Declaration Of War no less on his introduction, and is worth a try over today's trip on breeding. So, an interesting maiden, and one in which City Of The Kings is no more than a hopeful selection.
