In depth

Verdict

A trappy little opener, where Recount may just have the edge over Sudden Flight and Desert Island Disc, though none of them can be totally dismissed. The selection comes here in form after finishing second and then third behind A One at Sandown and Windsor in the past week. Both those runs were over 10 furlongs, but he is back over 12 here for the first time in over a year and it can pay to take note. Staying on in both those two recent outings, this would appear to be ideal for him and he is already a distance winner at Leicester in the past off a 2lb higher mark. Today could well be the day to catch him. Sudden Flight drops back to this trip from two miles, over which he won at Chester on his penultimate start. He seems to go on any ground and is effective at trips from this upwards, so with a decent draw to help he can go very well. Top weight Desert Island Disc is also effective over trip and on this ground and was a comfortable winner of a Brighton classified two starts ago, before flopping in handicap company there last time. He should go well again here, but perhaps the handicapper has his measure at present. Of the remainder, Great View and Head To Kerry would have claims to some prize money, but we are happy to stick with Recount to get us off to a positive start.
