Verdict

The best race of the day and preference is for the progressive Shifting Star ahead of Exclamation and Mastership. Walter Swinburn has his horses in good form and this Night Shift gelding looks smart. He has taken his last three races in progressive fashion and having run well on his sole start at Lingfield before, the surface should pose no problems. He is well-drawn in nine, as opposed to Oldjoesaid who is drawn wide in two. Despite a poor run last time and the step up to six not definitely sure to suit, it would be unwise to take his challenge lightly. Eisteddfod is a grand old horse but lacking so far this season, comments that also apply to Mutamarred. Mac Gille Eoin has held his form well and has claims but may now be in the handicappers grip, whilst Warsaw from Mike De Kock's is a real unknown having been picked up from Ballydoyle. Exclamation is talented and looks sure to appreciate the drop to six but he's been off the track for 131 days. Mastership has been running well in big-field handicaps over seven furlongs so would need a really strong temp with the first-time visor on, and so we will return to Shifting Star to win again.
