    Verdict

The finale was taken in good style by the Hughie Morrison-trained Sangiovese, ridden by Stephen Drowne. The place to be in a race that was initially run at a steady pace was near the front, so the winner's rider deserves credit for being in the right place at the right time. Taking it up inside the two-furlong marker, the winner simply outstayed his rivals from that point. Danakil stayed on for second, while Whispered Pormises seemed the one to suffer most from the steady early pace. He was going on well at the line and can be rated better than this.
