In the first division of a maiden that shouldn't take much winning we're siding with Mark Johnston's well bred debutant STAFF SERGEANT with the standard setting Cojo also respected and Khanivorous could also go well. Related to plenty of winners including at listed class the selection also boasts a bloodline with a filly that placed in the Oaks. Granted the stable's runners often need their first outing but if running to his potential his powerful connections should be celebrating. Cojo is the yardstick in the race having earned a rating on 75 in three outings. He seemed to take a step backwards on his last start after showing improvement from first run to second but it looks too early to rule him out. Khanivorous marginally improved on his second start and his trainer knows the time of day when it comes to success on this surface while Penrod Ballantyne could improve from his first start. This looks a promising maiden that should go to Staff Sergeant if he can live up to his pedigree.
