Bellench stands out at the weights and is preferred to Samuel Charles, Schoenberg and Bustan. The last named has lost his way since the glory days of his juvenile campaign. Still, he did manage to win a handicap off a mark of 87 at the start of this season, so is still capable on his day. Admittedly, he has been out of sorts lately but the drop to this grade may provide the fuel for his fire. A claimer at Kempton on a Wednesday evening would have been the last thing on the minds of Charles Egerton Bloodstock when they shelled out $180,000 for Schoenberg as a two-year-old. Still, it is interesting that he is being persevered with at this level and he is one to seriously monitor in the betting. Samuel Charles needs no introduction and will again run his race. The admirable veteran knows exactly what to do and will pounce on any weakness amongst the rest. However, Bellench - successful on his only previous visit to Kempton - looks to have been well placed this evening. Sylvester Kirk had numerous options for this fellow this week and, as this appears to be the easiest, Bellench is taken to strike while he has the chance.
