Not the best of maidens on paper and we'll take a chance on EMPOWERED being fit; Confederate, Crusoe's Return and Icy Cool make it to the shortlist. The selection comes here on the back of a fourth place at Leicester back in April. Starting a 5/2 favourite, he possible found the soft ground against him as he was well-held behind Downhiller. The three horses that finished in front of him have all won since and indeed two are rated in the 90's. The stable remain in good nick and assuming that all is well regarding fitness, he may prove hard to beat. Alqaffay, a half brother to Echo Of Light, has a taking pedigree but he didn't impress on debut and needs to improve but that is very likely, whilst Deer Lake will be qualified for handicaps after this run and stablemate Icy Cool may be one for the future. Yetholm has shown promise but the stable remain out of form, Confederate is a likely improver as Roger Charlton's horses tend to improve greatly for their debut run and he did show some promise, whilst the pair of Cheney Manor and Crusoe's Return have been exposed as fairly moderate. If fit from his break, this looks a good opportunity for Empowered to shed his maiden tag.
