ABSINTHE can provide a tonic for punters in the opener with Assail and Mefraas feared most. The selection appears to be reasonably treated ahead of his handicap bow on his juvenile form whilst he was entitled to need his run at Windsor which was his first since October. The only horse to come out of that race has since won impressively whilst the fact that Walter Swinburn has a one in four strike rate at the track this year provides another boost. Assail improved for the switch to handicapping when making a winning start but was subsequently held from a 7lb higher mark. He lines up on the same perch but this race is weaker and he may have more to offer. Mefraas has performed consistently since going handicapping but is still without a win; the switch of surface may help as may more positive tactics. Mayolynn's best performance came at this track so she's worth bearing in mind despite some modest runs on grass whilst Navajo Nation went close from a 3lb lower mark and may find more for blinkers. Peter Grimes has an each-way chance with his yard going well with Haafhd Time and Young Dottie others that could challenge for a place but they could struggle to cope with Absinthe.
