Laurentina is the pick over Herb Paris, with Nicomedia best of the rest. Laurentina made a very pleasing debut at Newbury a fortnight ago, finishing fourth just two-lengths behind Mick Channon's Silca Chiave, and the latter proved the merit of that form when beaten a short-head in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at The Curragh on Sunday. With that in mind, it will surely take a good one to lower the colours of Brian Meehan's filly here, and she should prove hard to beat. Her main market rival is Herb Paris who made a pleasing debut when second to Lord Theo at Windsor, but on breeding she will come into her own over further, and on this occasion may be tapped for toe by the selection. Nevertheless, she should be good enough to reach the frame again, along with Nicomedia, although likewise, today's trip is as short as she would want on the evidence so far. The market may reveal which of the Willie Haggas duo is preferred, but the one to beat is most definitely Laurentina.
