Verdict

A disappointing turnout considering the prize money. Themaxwecan pops up every now and then and will strip fitter for a run at Musselburgh. Firstman was hating the soft ground on his reappearance at Newmarket and it would be no surprise if Tony Martin’s stayer reversed that for today with Solent Gateway. Law Of The Sea exceeded expectations when fourth in the Chester Cup but has yet to win beyond 1m4f. MOUNTAIN ROAD, very progressive upped in trip on Polytrack in the autumn, has yet to win on Turf and returns from a break but looks the type to improve again this year and might be a bit of value against likely favourite Carzola, who is on a four-timer but has gone up another 10lb since beating three rivals on soft going at Doncaster.
