In depth

Verdict

Fastnet Storm is better than his last run at Chester however the more solid option looks to be GALA CASINO STAR who is preferred to Just Bond, Jordaura and Kidlat. Richard Fahey's gelding is high enough in the weights as he makes his seasonal return however with the yard in great nick at present he is hard to ignore. This Dr Fong gelding has proven himself on all sorts of ground and a decent run is expected. It must be pointed out that his record fresh is poor so if he fails to fire today then it may pay to side with course and distance winner Just Bond. Geoff Oldroyd's charge ran well in defeat at Beverley last time out and his beating of Kidlat at the track last month reads well. The last-named locks horns again and is not discounted with a nice pull in the weights. Ezdeyaad steps back up in trip which will suit but he was back in fourth in the race won by Just Bond, Jordaura is 3lb higher after a commendable second to Play It Sam at Ascot, whilst Fastnet Storm beat the selection at Nottingham last year and would be a danger to all if getting his own way out in front. Webbow looks high enough in the weights and hasn't won for nearly two years, Mujadel is a player if lasting home over this longer trip, whilst Trans Sonic would be a major player if converting his Southwell form to turf (hasn't really before) having beaten the progressive Academy Blues last time out. An open heat where preference is for Gala Casino Star. [Nic Doggett]
